The Columbus United 2009 boys team won the championship at the Holiday Classic Tournament in Starkville on Saturday and Sunday. The team dominated throughout the competition. They defeated Starkville SA U12 Rec+, TFC-Amory U12 boys, SSA U12 Boys and the Delta Red Bulls (Greenwood). The team earned three shutouts and had just one goal scored against them. The team is coached by Dave Albertson and assistant coach Will Starks. The United U11 girls, coached by McGee Ledbetter, were finalists in the tournament. The team defeated the Delta Red Bulls in the semifinals before falling to the Oxford Flood U12 girls team in the finals. Also competing this weekend were the U10 and U11 boys and U14 girls.
