On Tuesday, the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools announced the newest reclassifications of schools for the upcoming 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.
The reclassifications announced pertain to just football as some MAIS schools have different classifications for other sports.
Columbus Christian Academy is the only local MAIS school that will change classifications next fall.
The Rams, currently a Class 2A school, have been playing eight-man football. However, the new reclassification sees CCA move up to Class 3A, meaning that the Rams will be playing 11-man football starting next season.
Columbus Christian will be placed with Carroll Academy, Kirk Academy, Marshall Academy, North Delta School and Winona Christian.
Columbus Christian has its longest-standing rivalry with Winona Christian, so the continuation of that matchup should be exciting.
Two schools that are currently in the same district as Columbus Christian — Calhoun Academy and Marvell Academy (Arkansas) — will also be reclassifying to Class 1A, District 1.
Oak Hill Academy, still a Class 4A school, will be playing three new teams in District 1 beginning next season: Delta Streets Academy, Washington School and Rossville Christian (Tennessee).
Two of OHA’s district opponents for this season, Kirk Academy and North Delta, moved down to Class 3A in the same district as Columbus Christian.
The Raiders’ newest district opponent, Washington School, has reclassified from Class 5A, District 1, the same district that houses Heritage Academy and Starkville Academy.
Washington School leaving Class 5A is the only change when looking at district play for the Patriots and Volunteers.
Like the MAIS, the MHSAA will be making a reclassification announcement in the coming few weeks, something to be on the lookout for.
