Former Missississipi State ace Chris Stratton is on the move again.
A year after landing in St. Louis at the Major League Baseball trade deadline, the right-handed pitcher has been dealt to the Texas Rangers. Stratton and starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery were both traded Sunday in exchange for three Texas prospects, according to John Denton of MLB.com.
This will be Stratton’s fifth team. After starring with the Bulldogs from 2010-12, he was drafted 20th overall by the San Francisco Giants. Stratton, 32, a Tupelo native, has also spent time with the Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates.
During his time in St. Louis, Stratton made 62 appearances – all in relief – and had a 6-1 record with a 3.89 ERA. He is 1-1 with a 4.36 ERA and one save this season. In his final college season, Stratton was named a Consensus All-American, MSU’s first since 1985.
