Mississippi State volleyball began its SEC campaign last weekend, posting its 11th straight win in a five-set thriller victory at Florida on Friday and a sweep loss to Auburn on the way home to Starkville.
The win in Gainesville saw the Bulldogs equal their best ever start to a season, and was the third victory for head coach Julie Darty Dennis against the Gators. They held the Gators to a .237 hitting percentage and recorded 11 aces as a team.
“I have said it before and I’ll say it again; I am so proud of this team,” Darty Dennis said. “The way they respond, communicate and execute is something special. I love how this was a total team win and everyone did their part. This was not about 2 or 3 people – this took all of us. Such a fun and exciting way to start SEC play. It’s just the beginning and we know we have a lot to keep working on, but this was an awesome win for our team, and I’m just so proud of them.”
MSU was unable to continue the undefeated start to the season in Auburn two days later, coming down to earth with a 3-0 loss, but now returns to Starkville for its next two matches.
The Bulldogs are back at Newell-Grissom this week for a game against Alabama on Friday and then a visit from No. 2 Texas on Sunday.
