The Mississippi State women’s golf played a strong second round to leap from ninth to third place heading into the final round of The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point.
State carded a score of 7-under par (281) to bring their two-day total to 4-under (572). The 7-under is tied for the 14th-lowest round in school history, while 4-under is the eighth-lowest total after 36 holes in team history.
“We got to a really good start today,” Bulldogs coach Charlie Ewing said. “The big difference that I saw was maintaining momentum. We got off to a good start this morning on the back nine, which is typically the harder nine. It was really good for us to come out and produce early by getting some birdies and going under par.
“Today we did struggle a bit on hole 18, but we did not let that change the momentum. We went onto the front nine and got some birdies. We maintained ourselves and rode momentum until the end.”
Julia Lopez Ramirez fired a 3-under 69 in the second round to move into a tie for fifth with a two-day score of 4-under. Her round included the Bulldogs’ first eagle of the season when she found the hole from more than 100 yards out on the fairway at No. 16.
Hannah Levi carded five birdies Tuesday and is tied for ninth at 2-under 142 on rounds of 72 and 70. Blair Stockett birdied two of her first three holes to forge a two-day score of 1-under, good for a tie for 13th.
Abbey Daniel is tied for 28th after a 3-over 75, and Ashley Gilliam improved on her first-round score by six shots and is tied for 47th at 6-over after an even-par 72 on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs will return to Old Waverly today for the final round with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

State’s Hernandez, Colas lose in second round
Mississippi State’s time at the ITF Tallahassee 15K came to an end Tuesday.
After winning their first round singles qualifying matches Monday, Carles Hernandez and No. 92 Alberto Colas both lost in the second round.
Hernandez lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 to Canadian Christian Lakoseljac, while Colas fell to Francisco Rocha of Portugal 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.
“Today was a great chance to learn about how to problem solve and make adjustments as sets come down to the wire at the end,” MSU assistant coach Jake Jacoby said. “The more mentally tough we can be throughout matches, the better we will execute and have more success in those moments. Alberto and Carles will be better players from today’s experience.”
Next up for the Bulldogs is another ITF 15K event Nov. 1-7 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
