Mississippi State volleyball kept up its 1-1 weekend habit in conference play last weekend, winning in straight sets at South Carolina on Friday before falling in a close 3-2 contest at Georgia on Sunday.
The Bulldogs (14-4, 4-4 SEC) recorded a comprehensive win on the road in Columbia, recording 43 kills on a .305 hitting percentage with 40 assists in the 3-0 victory over the Gamecocks. Lindsey Mangelson once again led the team in kills with 15, and she was joined in double digits by Bernardita Aguilar and Noella Obi.
McKenna Yates provided 21 digs defensively for MSU, just shy of her season-best in only three sets of action, and Gha’Naye Whitfield-Moss contributed three solo blocks to the team’s total of 10.
The game against Georgia wasn’t so straightforward, and though the Bulldogs battled admirably they fell in a decisive fifth set to go back to .500 in conference play.
The two teams of Bulldogs scored at least 22 points each through four sets, with no margin of victory greater than three points. The fifth set went the distance as well, with Georgia squeaking out a narrow 16-14 win to seal the game.
MSU is back at home for a pair of matches against ranked opposition this weekend. They face No. 3 Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 17 Tennessee on Sunday at 4 p.m.
