TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — In a 15-team field at the Seminole Intercollegiate, a final round push from Mississippi State men’s golf put the Bulldogs in a tie for sixth place to end the event.
MSU climbed four spots in the third round after a 12-over 300 performance on Tuesday, giving it a seventh-straight top-10 finish in team tournaments this season.
“Not the week we were hoping for, but I’m really proud of the fight we gave today, especially on the back nine,” head coach Dusty Smith said in Tuesday’s press release. “This golf course was a championship test that demanded excellence this week. If you were a little bit off, you paid the price.”
Hunter Logan and Garrett Endicott led the field in team competition for the Bulldogs, each finishing 7-over through 54 holes, both tied for 27th.
However, it was individual Drew Wilson who had the best performance at the tournament overall. The redshirt freshman shot 1-under at the Seminole Invitational, putting him in a tie for eighth place.
Mississippi State gets back on the golf course this weekend, heading to Statesboro, Georgia, for the Schenkel invitational.
“This group is not pleased with the week, but at the same time, we know the areas we need to get better at in order to be a championship team,” Smith said. “There’s lots of golf to be played this season. I know our guys are chomping at the bit to get back out and compete again this week.”
