LONDON, U.K. — Mississippi State women’s soccer embarked on a lengthy journey across the pond to London this week, taking in the sights and sounds of English football.
The Bulldogs have also played in two matches so far, taking on Aston Villa F.C.’s U-21 squad and most recently, the University of Wembley Academy.
MSU has represented the Southeastern Conference and the U.S. well so far, going a perfect 2-for-2.
Aitana Martinez-Montoya highlighted the Bulldogs’ 2-1 win over the Lions with a pair of second-half goals. She was one of MSU’s top goal-scorers last season, bagging six goals, including three in SEC play.
“The resilience and determination shown by our team today were truly commendable,” head coach James Armstrong said in Thursday’s press release. “We are proud of the effort the girls showed after a long week. We grew into the game and played a strong second half. … Our team adapted and created numerous chances, finding a way to win in the end.”
MSU’s second match against UWA saw the emergence of freshman Kara Harris, who scored a hat trick in what ended up as a dominant victory.
The Bulldogs have one match remaining in their international trip on Saturday against Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.
“Today was a dominant performance in an adverse environment,” Armstrong said. “The girls started fast and executed the game plan in a professional manner throughout the game”
