The Mississippi State men’s tennis team will return to the court in Dallas, Texas, on Friday for its first-round match of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Championships.
The No. 6 Bulldogs are matched up with SEC rivals No. 23 Florida in the 16-team event, and will begin play today at 6:30 p.m. at the Altec/Styslinger Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs enter the championship stage of the tournament for the first time since 2019, when the team went 1-2 against three Top-15 opponents in Chicago. They’re riding a hot run of form into Dallas, going 6-0 to start the new year and sweeping the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Starkville last month.
The team is currently ranked sixth nationally, and features the No. 6 men’s singles player in Petar Jovanovic and the No. 6 doubles team of Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez.
No. 33 Mario Martinez Seranno, No. 45 Sanchez Martinez and No. 68 Bryan Hernandez Cortes round out the squad of Top 100 players.
The Bulldogs and Gators have met 15 times under current MSU head coach Matt Roberts, with MSU winning 6 times. The winner will advance to play either No. 16 Clemson or No. 1 Virginia in the quarterfinals. Both teams are guaranteed at least three matches during the week through a consolation bracket.
