STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s basketball is already earning the attention of AP voters after an impressive first three games of the season, highlighted by a 39-point win over Jacksonville State on Sunday.
The Bulldogs sit as the unofficial No. 26 team in the country after earning the most votes of any team not ranked in the top 25 of the latest AP poll.
The Bulldogs (3-0) put together one of their most dominating non-conference performances in recent memory, shooting 57.7 percent from the field in an 84-45 win over the Gamecocks at Humphrey Coliseum.
Five players finished in double-figuresl, led by JerKaila Jordan’s 16-point performance. The senior guard has scored 13 or more points in her first three games of the season, averaging 18.3 points a game on 48.6 percent shooting.
Freshman Miracle Sheppard had her best performance as a Bulldog to date, finishing with 14 points and four assists, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line.
The Bulldogs out-rebounded Jacksonville State, 44-19, in the game, out-scoring the Gamecocks 51-24 in the second half alone.
Mississippi State returns to the court at 11 a.m. Wednesday, taking on New Orleans.
