BATON ROUGE, La. — Mississippi State women’s tennis took home a title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southern Regional in Baton Rouge, La. this week.
The doubles team of fifth-year senior Alexandra Mikhailuk and freshman Athina Pitta defeated LSU’s Antia Sahdiiea and Kinaa Graham for the doubles title on Tuesday afternoon, 1-6, 7-5 [10-5].
The two defeated LSU’s Aran Teixido Garcia and Florentine Dekkkers in a three-set thriller on Monday to advance to the doubles final, winning a third-set tiebreak, 11-9.
In advancing to, and now winning, the final, Mikhailuk and Pitta have automatically qualified for the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego Nov. 1-5.
