Bryce Harrison finished second and Luke Bowles was third in Wednesday's MHSAA Class 2A state cross country championship at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, leading the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science boys team to a third-place finish.
"This is an awesome victory for us," said LeAnn Alexander, MSMS director for student affairs. "Of course, we were aiming for a championship, as any team would. But this is a great step up for us and our cross country team. This gives us a little boost, something to work toward for next year."
Harrison finished the race in 17 minutes, 57.44 seconds, and Bowles was just behind at 17:58.87. The two juniors led the charge for the Blue Waves, as they had done all year.
"The majority of our boys team are juniors, so we're looking to see them again next year," Alexander said. "As long as we have a healthy offseason I think we'll be back, and hopefully we'll bring back the trophy next year."
Nicholas Bryant finished 19th in 19:26.96, and Colby Brown finished 20th in 19:30.29.
