STARKVILLE — For the third straight game, the Mississippi State baseball team completed a comeback victory to save its season.
The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth, capped by a game-winning two-run homer by Amani Larry, his second of the game, to beat Texas A&M 10-8 in Thursday’s series opener at Dudy Noble Field.
The Bulldogs (27-25, 9-19 SEC) tied the game at eight when Dakota Jordan scored on a wild pitch earlier in the at-bat.
MSU used a three-RBI double from Slate Alford, home run from Larry and sacrifice fly by Hunter Hines to tie the game at seven after trailing 7-2, despite their pitching staff issuing 15 walks in the game.
MSU starter Colby Holcombe lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs, including a three-run homer to Ryan Targac to give A&M (30-22, 11-17 SEC) a 4-2 lead in the third, and walked seven.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single from Kellum Clark, and a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI single by David Mershon.
The two teams return to Dudy Noble Field for Friday’s game No. 2. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. (SEC+).
