Elena Eaton posted a hat trick and Lauren Rutherford added 2 goals and an assist to lead the Mississippi School for Math and Science girls soccer team to a 7-0 win over Winona on Thursday at the Lowndes County Soccer complex.
Madison Johnson and Cali Ormon each had a goal, and Kareena Patel had an assist. Goalkeepers Blaire Diffrient and Bri Watson maintained the clean sheet with 1 save each.
“We’re pleased with the growth we are continuing to see early in the season,” coach Chuck Yarborough said. “Elena netted a hat trick fairly early in the match, and our senior leaders managed play efficiently, allowing us to give less-experienced players quality playing time once again. I’m particularly pleased to see our on-field communication coming along so well as we head toward district play after the Thanksgiving break.”
“We are off to a strong start this season,” said Eaton, a co-captain. “And our success has been all about teamwork. We try to encourage each other and build each other up, and that mindset has been key to our success so far.”
The MSMS girls improved to 3-0.
