STARKVILLE — Mississippi State senior center Darryl Williams and junior cornerback Cameron Dantzler were named Wednesday to the Lindy’s Sports Preseason All-America Second Team.
Seventeen student-athletes from the Southeastern Conference earned preseason football All-America honors from Lindy’s Sports. MSU joined Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn as the only SEC programs with multiple student-athletes honored.
Williams was named offensive team captain following MSU’s spring game. He moved from left guard to center during spring drills to replace second-round NFL draft pick and All-American Elgton Jenkins.
Williams allowed one sack, three QB hits, and five hurries for nine total pressures in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus. The Bessemer, Alabama, native was the No. 5 overall graded guard in the SEC by PFF last season (71.1). He had the No. 5 best pass-blocking grade (82.9).
Dantzler ranked second in the SEC last season among corners with a 41.1 passer rating allowed, according to PFF. He was one of only four SEC cornerbacks who didn’t allow a touchdown (minimum 345 coverage snaps played). The Louisiana product also had two interceptions and led the Bulldogs in passes defended (11).
Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, and linebacker Dylan Moses earned first-team honors. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, defensive lineman Raekwon Davis, and linebacker Anfernee Jennings were second-team picks.
Missouri tight end Albert Okwuegbunam, Georgia offensive lineman Andrew Thomas, Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown, LSU safety Grant Delpit, and Texas A&M punter Braden Mann also were first-team selections.
Vanderbilt tight end Jared Pinkney, Auburn offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho, Florida cornerback CJ Henderson, and Georgia safety J.R. Reed rounded out the second-team picks from the SEC.
