Thankful for strong women
In the late 2000s, Bonnie Keen, a Nashville native and Grammy-nominated recording artist, co-wrote a song entitled “The Women I Come From” with Tori Taff, the wife of famed gospel music singer Russ Taff. The song chronicles the women that have dedicated their lives to their children and their children’s wellbeing.
I have been privileged to grow up with strong women who embody the message of that song. Women who love freely yet are fierce and powerful. Women who raised children yet continue to grow everyday themselves. Constant pillars of encouragement and support, these women have laid the foundation for my future and I am forever indebted to them for that sacrifice.
In addition to my loving mother, Diane, who, with grace, has successfully fought some of life’s toughest battles, I have been blessed with her two sisters, Carol and Suzanne. Partners in crime, they truly have always had my best interest at heart.
Their mother, Betty Thornbrough, has been at the forefront of our family for years. Gracefully leading us for over sixty years, my Mammaw has left indelible positive marks on her family and everyone she has come in contact with. I learn valuable life lessons from her daily and through prayer attempt to apply them to my life. The light of Christ shines so brightly through her. I would not be the man I am without these women and I am forever thankful for them.
To Aunt Sue, Aunt Carol, Mama, and Mammaw: I love you!
To every mother and mother figure: Happy Mother’s Day!
