Believes flag wording is appropriate

A recent letter writer to The Dispatch bemoaned the inclusion of the phrase “In God we trust” in the new flag design. The God of the Bible is the only hope that an individual or a nation has. It is entirely appropriate that the wording should be included since God has and continues to bless this country immeasurably. He is “the true God, the living God, and an everlasting king” (Jeremiah 10:10). He is also a wonder-working God. “Who is like unto thee, Oh Lord, …… who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders”. (Exodus 15:11). He sovereignly rules over all creation. “Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in Heaven and in the Earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and Thou are exalted as head above all.” (I Chronicles 29:11)

“God’s glorious purpose for believers stretches from eternity to eternity. It was planned in eternity past and will be fulfilled in eternity future. Time is but a fleeting moment in the middle.” (John MacArthur)

This God loved us so much that He sent His only begotten son to suffer and die an agonizing death on the cross at Calvary so that those who are trusting him and him alone for their eternal salvation will have a grand and glorious future. Someone once said that we do not have words in our language to fully describe the unimaginable magnificent of our incredible eternal home.

God’s great love was so beautifully stated by the English Baptist Minister F.B. Meyer when he said, “The love of God toward you is like the Amazon River flowing down to water a single daisy.”

We are going through some difficult times in America these days. For that reason we need to do what Corrie Ten Boom, the lady who helped many Jews escape from the Nazi Holocaust during World War II, when she urged people to “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

We as a nation and as individuals need to honor and glorify God in everything that we do, everything that we say, and every action that we take. God made it very clear in his Holy word how he would respond if we were to do this: “Them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed”. (I Samuel 2:30)
