Questions Harris’ use of ethnicity in election

Senator Kamala Harris, Democratic party’s vice-presidential candidate, once again in her debate dearly remembered her mother Shyamala Gopalan who immigrated from India in late 50s. She, however, never mentioned or remembered her father Donald Harris. As a matter of fact, I didn’t hear her say anything about her father in any major forum or discussion. Dr. Harris is a prominent economist and award-winning Emeritus Professor of Stanford University. It is to be noted that Senator Harris claims her ethnicity as a Black American that she inherited from her father’s side including the last name. She doesn’t much claim her mother’s side of ethnicity (that is Indian) may be because it is not that beneficial to her in wooing votes.
