Our city’s ardent musical life is one of its most enjoyable assets, a banquet available to all. We enjoy ourselves with choruses and bands, church choirs and organ recitals. We learn from the year-round offerings at MUW, both mainstream and very experimental. The Columbus Choral Society is in its 10th year. And we usually have Columbus Sings Messiah to launch our Christmas season.
So The Dispatch joins our musical community in regretting that Columbus Sings Messiah has had to be canceled for the second year. With the virus a continuing threat, we understand and commend the caution of the organizers and sponsors. Yet so many will miss the annual production that draws many singers and musicians, and two big audiences.
Annunciation Catholic Church has hosted Columbus Sings Messiah for 19 years. To the concerts come musical participants from the whole Golden Triangle and beyond- soloists who put Columbus on their calendars early.
We are all disappointed that the 20th production of this masterwork will not ring out this year, but the decision makes good sense. We look forward to celebrating that anniversary, with Handel’s verses and melodies, on Dec. 13, 2022. “The trumpet shall sound” again.
