Editor’s note: The following is a series of text message reports sent by Eupora resident Michael Davidson in the wake of this week’s ice storm to a group text message, which included multiple Golden Triangle residents. The texts, which were sent Wednesday evening, are reprinted with Davidson’s permission but without editing.
6:21 p.m.: Dr Zhivago here After 3 days no heat no water trees down ; having 2 dogs and two cats sleep in the same bed I can now have a hot bath and speak civilized ; and wear clothes fresh out of dryer
6:35 p.m.: Praying at the alter of a hot bath ; and since nothing was open even the dogs were tiring of my swamp stew
6:58 p.m.: I’m finally able to get the bird nest out of my beard and not see my breath in the house Here’s the deal we installed a state of the art generator which worked fine for 2 hours ; then about 8 pm the lights on the Titanic began flickering and Bea and I had a look of dread before the whole world plunged into cold and darkness ; thus began the fire drill of oil lamps ; flash lights ; fire places ; conserving water in the bathtub bc at 3 am the water went down ; no flushing of commode no dishwashing ; charging phone and laptop in car /,trees down the fences are down and your sleeping with dogs and cats atop of you and all roads impassable and stores are closed and all of sudden you have gone from 2026 to the fall of Vicksburg and your looking for the last of the potatoes and onions and calling the generator guy who dosent get back until day 3 ,we’re good now but bitter cold can rock your boat
