My first thought is, why would you have a former offensive lineman who only played sparingly before getting injured in his brief college career as your offensive coordinator, calling the same old tired plays game after game? Why do we keep hiring first-time, inexperienced coaches at a bargain-basement price instead of what it takes to hire a top-notch Division One coach with an impressive résumé? You get what you pay for, and by now State should know better than to take the cheap route in the SEC. Who would’ve thunk it!
Oh well, Bulldog Nation, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Texas has gone ahead 45-38 in overtime, and State has to answer or it’s another heartbreaking loss. Bad coaching, poor play-calling by Jeff Lebby again, missed tackling by everybody, they couldn’t convert a 4th and 1 again, they allowed a punt return for a touchdown, a fumbled snap by Shapen again — now it’s going to get much harder to get to six wins and go bowling at this dismal rate. Mississippi State has lost 16 straight SEC games. They were 0-8 in the SEC last season. How long can Jeff Lebby last in Starkvegas? You be the judge.
Jeff Lebby may be running out of time. Another heartbreaking loss on Homecoming weekend is hard to digest when they were up by 17. Bad teams always find a way to lose, especially with a predictable offense and some of the worst defense on record. How is it that Shapen can throw for almost 400 yards and four touchdowns on the day, but when it counted the most he was missing in action again? I’m sorry, Jeff, but the buck stops with you, and you are not getting it done, partner. It’s time to move on.
