Forgotten ordinances
Years ago, the Columbus City Council formed a committee and then passed a new sign ordinance for Highway 45.
Several existing signs were of course grandfathered-in but were given a later date to comply with the ordinance. A few new businesses complied and then it seems the entire thing was completely forgotten and ignored.
If you notice now, there are so many new signs that are way above the height limit.
Another ordinance that was either by the city or the Historic Preservation Commission ruled that balconies could only be added to buildings that originally had balconies. This has not be followed either.
