President Trump angrily posted that “this highly respected country is donating the plane to the United States Air Force/Defense department AND NOT TO ME [his capitals].” This is true only for the rest of President Trump’s time in office. After his term ends, the plane becomes the property of his presidential library and will be available for his use. Ongoing operating and maintenance costs of a presidential library, including any aircraft, are funded by the National Archives and Records Administration.
If President Trump were to be given the Qatar jet personally, he would have to pay for its operation and maintenance personally. The way it was done, if finalized, would put that cost on us, the taxpayers.
