Now that Elon Musk has everything he wants — the removal of oversight from all his businesses, all the data on all of us from every federal database, multi-billion-dollar federal contracts — he has broken with Donny Two-Dolls. There is some risk. He will lose most of the contracts; he will lose the EV subsidies. But in the intimacy break-up, there is truth emerging. Musk has condemned the Big Ugly Bill in vivid terms. Do not imagine that Musk is our friend; he offers no support for anyone poorer than he is, but the Bill is still as loathsome as he says it is.
Can a massive phone and letter assault persuade Cindy Hyde-Smith to vote against the Big Ugly Bill? I suppose it is worth a try, but I cannot imagine Cindy voting for the needs of her constituents.
Roger Wicker is a slightly better target. I think he still has a vestigial conscience. OK, let’s flood Senator Wicker with our outrage. Maybe if he gets yelled at enough, his vestigial conscience will bestir itself.
