Or the lack thereof. Borrow, beg or steal. When are we going to understand there are no free lunches? Money doesn’t grow on trees on the street where I live. A businessman once said, “In God I trust, all others pay cash.” Good words to live by. The federal government is forgiving college loans among other things to buy votes. They are printing money faster than they can give it away. We Walmart shoppers are carrying the debt load because of inflation. If America doesn’t get some sane leadership, we’re in for a rude awakening.
On the local front, some council members want to increase the minimum hourly rate to $15 for public works employees. The city borrowed millions for Propst Park. This was on top of what was borrowed for the street lights, road paving and other capital improvements. The final cost of the new fire department building on Airline was never fully disclosed. We have an Amphitheater not finished, drainage problems being kicked down the road, understaffed police and fire departments, many empty lots and buildings in the city and an “annexation plan” that doesn’t make sense and is costing an untold amount of money the city doesn’t have. You can’t borrow yourself out of debt. You can borrow yourself into bankruptcy. Do you agree a little financial responsibility will go a long way and might even help? But I shop at Walmart, what do I know?
God Bless America!
