We have been to DC a number of times since our second daughter lived there in the Arlington area. Recently we made a visit to DC for two weeks. We made several tours into DC and its surroundings.
Completely different picture this time! A wider area around the White House and Capitol buildings are cordoned by police and armed national guards. No vehicles are allowed. Also, by walking you can’t visit close to it.
What is interesting is that visitors are around with family members. Though people were scared, we didn’t see any arrests made. While DC is not a state, there are demands to make it the 51st state.
DC has low crime rates even without the National Guard and federally-controlled police forces. I am not sure why this was made a scary situation for people using executive power.
