There was an accident last Thursday evening when a truck ran a stop sign on Seventh Street North and hit a car. The two drivers immediately got-out and started screaming and blaming each other. I called 911 and reported the accident. The cars were blocking the intersection. It took 10 minutes for a police car to arrive and by this time, both cars had pulled-across to the avenue. A policewoman got-out of her car and immediately the two drivers were now best friends and assured her that everything was alright. She didn’t ask for ID, driver’s licenses, or proof of insurance. She just got-back in her squad car and left.
Of course, I couldn’t contact the police chief until Monday because our city offices are all closed on Fridays.
When I did call the police, I was told that citizens are not allowed to phone the police chief. We have to make an appointment to speak to him.
I urge our city council to change this policy and also to reconsider that crazy four-day work week.
