I do my best to avoid ad hominem attacks for I so detest them. But Slim Smith’s error in a recent column is particularly egregious as it may lead the trumpster of trumpsters who trumps all trumpsters, Micheal Cassidy, to become the U.S. Congressional Representative for Mississippi District 3, Starkville.
My anger is more than palpable. Politics is no game! We can ill-afford to get it wrong.
Slim correctly argues many points, such as the unlikeliness of Mississippi electing a Democrat.
Why his brain failed him in his endorsement of Michael Guest’s opponent, I do not know. I do know he is smarter than to do such a thing. As evidence of his brilliance one need only look up his May 26 editorial, “Thoughts and Prayers For the Second Amendment.” It doesn’t matter: His indulgent faux pas is one we will have to suffer the consequences. To think Starkville liberals voted for Cassidy — as Slim advocated — boggles my mind.
I was the double recipient of serendipity: 1) I “kept” my missus’ Cassidy campaign flyer, 2) That it miraculously “popped” to the top of my clutter pile. Such Trumpite nonsense contained therein immediately lost Cassidy three votes at a minimum. I alerted all I knew who were voting.
In his column Slim said, “I don’t know… if Guest’s primary opponent (Micheal Cassidy) will prove to be any more extreme than they are.” Well if that ain’t explicit instruction to vote for his opponent “no matter who”, I do not know how to be more explicit!
Pa always told me, “Boy, be careful what you wish for. The enemy you KNOW IS better than the ONE YOU DON’T.” It is incumbent on a responsible reporter to always perform due diligence. Especially so when handing out instructions to lemmings.
I pray his mistake will be rectified in the runoff. Slim damn well better deliver Starkville’s liberal “university” Democratic vote for Michael Guest!
Politics ain’t no game!
