ABERDEEN — Royce “Chewt” J. Stephens, 70, died May 21, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center — Amory.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, at Greater Ebenezer M.B. Church, with Carlos Orr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stephens was born on Jan. 30, 1953, in Louisville, to the late Elizah James and Alice Elizabeth Stephens. He was a graduate of Jackson State University, received certification in educational leadership from the University of Mississippi and the Principal’s Institute in Jackson. He was formerly employed as Principal and Football Coach at Aberdeen High School, Louisville High School and Noxubee High School. He was a member of Ebenezer M.B. Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Stephens, Carl Stephens and Russell Stephens Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Lue Stephens of Aberdeen; children, Tonia Parramore-Spears of Spring, Texas, LaShonda M. Hoskins and Marcus O. Collins Sr., both of Aberdeen; siblings, Mattie Brown, Bettie Lee McDonald, Deborah Felicia Stephens, all of Saginaw, Michigan, and Crandale Stephens of Louisville; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Foster Fields, Derrick Fields, Fred Fields, Antonio Walker, Alonzo Sykes Jr., Torry Boykins, Taurus James and Fred Key.
