Lester Clay Shepherd, 71, of Caledonia, passed from this earth to his Heavenly home on Friday, April 21, 2023.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral
services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kevin Jenkins officiating and Dale Reese assisting. Interment will be at Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Lester was born August 22, 1951, in Steens, MS, to the late Maurice Clay Shepherd and Floyie Lee Tribble. Lester was a retired Army veteran and served from 1982-2011. He served from 1982-1986 with the First Cavalry Division in Ft. Hood, TX. From 1986-2011 he served with the Mississippi National Guard in the 223rd Engineering Division. He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom where he received many commendations. He was employed with Dyncorp and M1 at Columbus Air Force Base for 23 years. Lester loved hunting, gospel music, and the Lord. His favorite thing on this earth was spending time with his grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy. Lester enjoyed bush hogging, caring for his cows, and drinking his diet coke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Floyie Shepherd; his in-laws, Floyd and Dorothy Griffin; and his granddaughter, Aviendha Hannah.
He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Cheryl Griffin Shepherd; children, Austin (Jessie) Shepherd, Sydney Brooke (Sean) Hannah; twin brother, Chester (Emily) Shepherd; sister, Gloria (James) Brown; seven grandchildren, Thane Shepherd, Griffin Shepherd, Alexander Hannah, Edison Hannah, Irene Hannah, Orion Hannah, Ulyssa Hannah and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Chester Shepherd, Austin Shepherd, Thane Shepherd, Sean Hannah, Chris Griffin, Hoot Garriga, Bennie Coleman and Chad Hudson.
Honorary pallbearers are Anthony Latham, Dale Reese, Steve Barksdale, Mark Moody, Michael Grant, Derrick Griffin, Eric Grant, Danny Weathers, Shane Dulaney, David Stitt, Karl Rittenberry, Martin Wood, Dewayne Burns, Ira Ott, Art Johnson, Charles Culpepper, Charlie Farrar, Don Harding, Mike Gambal and the Seniors Adult class at Kolola Springs Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Kolola Springs Baptist Church building renovation fund.
