PHILADELPHIA — Charles Robert Houston died May 1, 2016. Services will be Saturday at noon at Missionary Union Baptist Church with Tony A. Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens in Columbus. Visitation is today from noon-6 p.m. Mr. Houston was born Sept. 3, 1937, to the late John and Mary Grant Houston. He received his bachelors degree in psychology from Rust College and a masters in counseling from Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Missionary Union Baptist Church and St. James United Methodist Church. He was the director of the Sim Scot YMCA and guidance counselor for West Lowndes High School. He is survived by his wife; children, Muriel Renee Roland of Columbus, Alton Robert Houston of Niceville, Florida, Kenneth Dwain Houston of Rialton, California, and Tamaka Labeatrice Mayes of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Dorothy Stribling of Philadelphia and Isabella Houston of Chicago, Illinois; and eight grandchildren.
