COLUMBUS — Beatrice Sparks Johnson, 78, died Oct. 18, 2024.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Canaan M.B. Church, with the Rev. David Jefferson Johnson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 26, 1945, in Crawford, to the late Burton Sparks Sr. and Maggie Sparks. She attended R.E. Hunt, East Mississippi Community College and Samford University of Birmingham, Alabama. She was formerly employed as a laundry worker, with UltraTech and as a cafeteria worker and manager with Columbus Municipal School District.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Judiette Sparks, Derrick and Anthony Sparks; and siblings, Burton Sparks Jr., Joe Lee Sparks, Andrew Louis Sparks, J.B. Sparks, Vante Sparks, Eliza Sparks Ash and Beulah Sparks Brown.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. David J. Johnson Jr.; children, Amelia F. Johnson, David J. Johnson III, both of Columbus and Anthony B. Johnson of Birmingham; siblings, Wynona Sparks Moore, Lilia M. Sparks Fenton, Emma L. Sparks Stephenson and Sarah Sparks, all of Columbus and Lucinda Sparks Porter of Chicago, Illinois; and two grandchildren.
