A Columbus woman was arrested earlier this month after allegedly embezzling more than $20,000 from a school booster club.
Heather Oglesby, 35, was charged Feb. 15 with embezzlement, according to a press release from Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies started investigating the case after New Hope Touchdown Club, a nonprofit booster club for New Hope schools, reported misappropriation of its funds. The club’s board discovered potential alterations in financial records Oglesby, who was serving as the board’s treasurer, provided, the release said.
The records revealed unauthorized transactions, including Cash App transfers to Oglesby’s account. The embezzlement charges cover the period of January 2023 to January 2025, and total about $20,030.50, the release said.
Other charges are expected, as the sheriff’s office investigates additional unauthorized transactions.
Oglesby is being held at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on a bond of $7,500.
