CLAY COUNTY — A West Point man is charged with murder after stabbing a man at a White Station nightclub late Sunday night, according to the sheriff”s department.
Clay County sheriff”s deputies responded to a call at Club G”s on White Station Road at 11:54 a.m. Sunday, where they found 60-year-old Benny Oats with a stab wound to his chest. Oats was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point, where he later died.
At approximately 5:15 a.m., Charles Smith, 41, of West Point, was charged with murder in Oats” death.
Smith is being held at Clay County Jail pending arraignment in Clay County Justice Court.
Oats” remains have been sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson for autopsy. The investigation remains open in conjunction with the Clay County Coroner”s Office.
