The Vibrant Church congregation will meet for the first time Sunday in its new, 1,500-person worship center.
Construction began in November 2017, and the church will hold services there Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m. Due to the smaller capacity of the previous building that only housed 650 people, Vibrant Church held three separate services. The larger auditorium will allow the church to consolidate Sunday morning worship into two services.
“We love people, not buildings. But, we believe the building serves as an important tool in reaching and loving more people,” Vibrant Church Pastor Jason Delgado said in an emailed statement.
Vibrant Church now has an average congregation of about 3,000, Delgado said.
Aaron Lane, executive assistant to the pastor, said the worship center also can host community events, such as graduations, and be available as an emergency shelter for local residents during a disaster.
The 45,000 square-foot building at 500 Holly Hills Road is part of the church’s $14-million expansion plan announced in 2015. Along with the newly completed auditorium, part of that expansion included a faith-based counseling service and ministerial leadership college, both of which started operations last year.
Renovations to the old worship center on-site, the last piece of the expansion plan, will begin soon, Lane said. Church officials did not comment on how exactly the old auditorium will be used once renovations are complete.
In an effort for debt-free construction, the church’s congregation funded the entire project.
“This has been a vision because we have experienced such rapid growth,” Lane said. “We could see this coming with the increase, so we’ve had plans for this for a while. We’re excited and we will be in there Sunday.”
