United Way of Lowndes County will host its final emergency preparation forum this coming Tuesday in New Hope.
Executive Director Patricia Brock said the forum’s purpose is to let people know what they can do to be prepared ahead of emergency situations. The idea, Brock said, came after storms in April 2014 spawned tornadoes that devastated Louisville, Tupelo and other communities.
“We’re talking about extended power outages, storm damage, tornadoes — any way you’d need to find a way to live,” she said. “This prep course is to let people know they need to be ready and that the big thing is having a plan and back up emergency supplies.”
Brock said the events feature guests from Columbus Light & Water and emergency response teams, such as Columbus Fire & Rescue, to better inform people on what to expect in emergency situations.
“We need to train people and get people in the know about what to do when these emergencies happen,” Brock said.
Tuesday’s event is at 9:45 a.m. at the New Hope YMCA.
