Sheriff’s deputies are seeking two suspects who robbed a Dollar General in Artesia at gunpoint Tuesday night.
Deputies responded to the store at 419 Lehmberg St. at about 9:45 p.m., according to a sheriff’s office press release. The store’s manager told them two masked men came to her office while she was processing money from the register, held her at gunpoint and took the money she was counting. Then they demanded she open the safe.
Once the masked men had the cash, they fled on foot, and the manager called 911, the press release said. A clerk, which deputies spoke to on the scene, said she saw the robbers enter the store with a gun, but since the men never saw her, she ran out of the back of the store to a nearby residence, where she also called 911.
Video footage deputies obtained from the store showed the men entering the south side of the building. One was wearing all black, with white writing on the left leg of his sweatpants. The other was dressed in camouflage, black pants and carrying a green bag.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch the man dressed in black displayed an AR-style pistol, while the other did not display a gun. The pair also wore masks to cover their faces.
No injuries were reported, and the cash was the only thing taken, Hawkins said.
Hawkins said Tuesday’s robbery happened at the same Dollar General involved in a botched robbery in April, when a masked assailant attempted to steal an employee’s car before the car died due to mechanical issues.
Anyone with knowledge of the robbery or any additional information, is encouraged to contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at (662) 328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 530-7151.
