Two men were arrested Sunday after allegedly burglarizing and vandalizing a pair of properties on Highway 45 North.
Darin Wayne Haynes, 38, and Johnathan Paul Shumaker, 35, are each charged with one count of burglary, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release.
At about 4:54 p.m., deputies responded to the area of 7293 Hwy. 45 N. in Columbus, where the two suspects were allegedly removing items from a storage building.
Haynes, who was on probation and wearing an ankle monitor, and Shumaker were both arrested.
Investigators later determined the men were caught on surveillance video earlier in the day, at about 2:30 a.m., allegedly breaking into a vehicle and vandalizing Nate’s Body Shop, also located on Highway 45 North.
The video depicted the suspects breaking a window of the business, setting an item on fire and throwing it inside, causing minor damage to the property, the press release said.
Both Shumaker and Haynes are being held at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting their initial appearances in court.
