Two people were injured in car wrecks Tuesday morning, one near Columbus High School and the other on 18th Avenue east of Highway 182.
At about 11 a.m., 58-year-old Morris Williams, of 1030 Military Road, lost control of his gray Chevrolet 2007 Impala and crashed into a utility pole on Hemlock Street east of the East Columbus school.
The Columbus Light & Water pole snapped in two, severing the electric wires, before falling away from the car, said Lineman Demon Jackson.
No customers lost power because of the wreck and the line was repaired by 2:30 p.m., said CL&W General Manager Todd Gale.
Williams, who told police officers he was diabetic, said he lost consciousness while driving eastbound on Hemlock.
He was taken to the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and was listed in good condition Wednesday morning.
His car was towed by Robertson Towing.
About an hour earlier, a 34-year-old FedEx Express driver rear-ended a blue Chevrolet Malibu.
Chris Kelley, who was driving an E-350 Budget truck, said he was going about 15 mph when something got in his eye, taking his attention off of the car braking in front of him.
“Wrong place, wrong time,” said Kelley, who said he has been in two other wrecks, neither caused by him, during his 10 years at FedEx.
Devin McBride, the 21-year-old Malibu passenger, was taken to the emergency room of BMH-GT and was later released.
