STARKVILLE — Three fraternity members were arrested Friday and charged with kidnapping a female student in Starkville Thursday around 10 p.m.
Donovan Carroll, 22, of Canton; Corey Skelton, 22, of Kosciusko; and Frederick Oglesby, 21, of Hattiesburg — all members of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at Mississippi State University — allegedly bound a female MSU student and held her against her will at a home at 411 Scales Street.
Starkville Police Department Lt. Troy Outlaw said the incident is believed to be related to a Twitter trend called “kidnapping season.”
“I hadn’t heard of this up until now,” Outlaw said of the Twitter trend.
Outlaw said the victim was held against her will for approximately 30 minutes. Friends brought her to the police station.
Each of the three suspects posted $15,000 bail and have since been released. A court date hasn’t been set.
The SPD denied comment on whether the victim was a member of a sorority.
