CLAY COUNTY – Three county residents were arrested last week for the theft of about $46,000 worth of copper from a Tennessee Valley Authority facility in West Point.
Michael McFalls, 23, and Christopher Hendon, 27, are both charged with malicious mischief and grand larceny. Madison Ray, 27, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, according to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Hendon and McFalls allegedly stole approximately $46,000 worth of copper and were responsible for more than $1,000 worth of damage at the facility between September and October, the release said. Sheriff Eddie Scott said it is unclear how many times the two broke into the facility.
“TVA Police are working that side of it (and) giving us information,” he told The Dispatch on Monday. “… They have to go back and check their records, and we’re working closely with them on the timelines.”
Scott said the subjects walked along railroad tracks near the facility to enter and exit the property with stolen goods and could face federal charges by both Kansas City Southern Railroad Police and TVA.
Scott said Ray was also involved in the crime, though it is unclear if she played a role in the physical theft.
“We haven’t proven that much on her, but we can prove that she was definitely involved,” he said.
Hendon and McFalls also face an unrelated charge of burglary of a dwelling. As of press time on Monday, bonds had not been set.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the theft is asked to contact CCSO at (662) 494-2896 or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
