Louisiana Shrimp Shack opens today in Columbus.
Kenny Whitey, a commercial fisherman operating out of the Gulf of Mexico, is here to provide the Golden Triangle with fresh-caught seafood in the small store located at 1909 Highway 45 N., the former location of Fine Consign & More.
Whitey is originally from New Orleans and brings with him cooking skills “raised on the bayou.” He said he wants to offer Golden Triangle residents a source of genuine Gulf-caught seafood. In addition to freshly caught shrimp and crabs, which Whitey offers frozen, boiled and fried, the Shrimp Shack also has crawfish, oysters and even alligator meat. Some items are only available seasonally.
The Shrimp Shack is open 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. The eatery offers both take-out orders and catering services.
Also new to Columbus is Weekends Plus Urgent Care.
The medical clinic, located at 3189 Holly Hills Plaza, Suite H, opened Monday.
Judy Trenary, a nurse practitioner, is the owner and provider for the location. Christina Bradford is the office manager. The clinic employs one other nurse, Amanda Wideman.
It is open from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays, from 1-9 p.m. Sundays and from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays. The clinic offers family care, preventative care and urgent care.
“Judy saw a need for evening care, especially on the weekends,” Bradford said, “So, after working at the hospital and the Walmart clinic, she started working to open her own clinic.”
Thrive Health, formerly North Mississippi Acupuncture in Columbus, is now open in Starkville.
Located at 823-C Highway 12 W., Thrive Health offers treatments for pain, chronic eye disease and other conditions through traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, Chinese herbs and supplements. Personal coaching for businesses is also offered. Operated by Clare Mallory O’Nan and Meagan O’Nan, the clinic offers “medicine to help you thrive.”
