A man was arrested Saturday afternoon in connection with a Friday night shooting in East Columbus that left a minor hospitalized.
Javeon Colebrook, 20, of Columbus turned himself in to police and was charged with attempted murder, according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
Officers responded at about 8:45 p.m. to reports of a gunshot victim outside of East Columbus Gym on Lawrence Drive. There, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from a single gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with life-threatening injuries. CPD Public Information Officer Bryan Moore said he was later airlifted to a hospital in Jackson.
The victim was still in critical condition as of Monday afternoon, Moore said.
Moore said the victim and Colebrook were involved in a verbal argument prior to the shooting, though the nature of the dispute is unknown.
Colebrook is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center while awaiting his initial court appearance. As of late afternoon Saturday, a bond had not been set.
Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to contact CPD at (662) 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
