A Columbus man accused of murdering a local teenager Friday night in south Columbus is behind bars.
City police arrested Eric Brewer, 25, of Pandora Drive, after he allegedly shot and killed 18-year-old Kwesi Kagekogel Hill at the intersection of 17th Street and Fourth Avenue South. The suspect and victim knew each other, city Public Information Officer Joe Dillon said.
Officers responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. Columbus Police Department Capt. Brent Swan said a private vehicle took Hill to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where he died from his injuries.
Hill’s autopsy is scheduled for early next week at the State Crime Lab in Jackson, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
Brewer is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond is set at $250,000.
CPD is continuing to investigate the case.
Separate shooting incident
Swan confirmed another shooting incident on College Street at about the same time as the Fourth Avenue incident. However, he said CPD is treating the two incidents as unrelated.
On College Street, suspects shot into a dwelling, but there were no injuries. Police have not yet arrested anyone in the case.
