A Steens woman is dead following a one-vehicle accident Monday on Highway 12 in Lowndes County.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Julie Bailey was pronounced dead after being transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. The accident occurred just before noon near the Highway 12 and Jemison Mill Road intersection.
Merchant said Bailey, 47, appears to have been driving a SUV when she suffered a medical condition, traveled across the middle line and went off road. Emergency crews transported her to the hospital. Her death, Merchant said, appears to be the result of the medical emergency she suffered and not the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
