A middle-aged man robbed the Sprint Mart in the Shell gas station at Highway 45 North and Highway 50 in Columbus Wednesday, making off with about $100, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office.
Sheriff”s deputies were called to the store at 1:15 p.m. by store clerk Fernanda Mixon, who lives nearby.
The male suspect is described as tall, slim and white in his mid- to late-30s. He was last seen driving a maroon and silver Ford F-150 truck with an out-of-state license plate north on Highway 45 from the store. The truck had silver lining and a silver toolbox in the bed.
The suspect approached Mixon and asked to change a dollar, she said. When she opened the cash register, he leaned over the counter, breaking a hand-held scanner, and grabbed a handful of money.
Mixon grabbed his hands and was shoved backward by the suspect, who ran from the store. Mixon picked up the broken scanner holder and threw it, hitting him on his way out.
“I”m just mad he took my money,” said Mixon, who suffered a bruised knuckle and broken fingernail.
The sheriff”s office did not released the identity of the suspect, who had not been taken into custody, by this morning.
