There were no injuries reported after a fire broke out Tuesday night at the Severstal steel manufacturing plant on Airport Road.
Columbus Fire Department sent three trucks to assist volunteer departments in Districts 3 and 4 after receiving a call at 7:26 p.m. The fire was contained approximately two hours later, officials said.
According to To Severstal spokesperson Katay Pruett, “Last evening, a ladle of steel was spilled on one of the lines at the caster. There is some damage to equipment, however no injuries. Small fires were contained by the local fire department. Another line at the caster continues to run and we are working to repair the damaged line is as soon as possible to minimize any impact on our customer deliveries.”
Severstal officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
