STARKVILLE – A Starkville Police Department officer was critically injured on Saturday after a vehicle collided with his motorcycle as he assisted with a funeral procession escort.
At about 1:43 p.m., the officer’s motorcycle and a vehicle that was not a part of the procession collided, resulting in serious injuries to the officer. The officer was airlifted to a medical facility in Jackson for further treatment.
The officer was still in critical condition as of press time Monday, according to an SPD press release.
The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and declined medical treatment.
SPD’s Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting a full investigation into the incident. The collision remains under investigation, and further details will be made available when appropriate.
