In Lowndes County the sheriff’s race continues to be the one to watch when it comes to money being spent, with comparatively small amounts raised in other races.
Incumbent Eddie Hawkins raised a total of $35,697, while challenger Willie Jones raised a total of $6,260.
This round of campaign finance reports were due July 10 and cover the period of June 1 to June 30. Candidates are required to itemize any donation or expenditure greater than $200.
Primary elections are Aug. 8, and the general election is Nov. 7.
Sheriff
Republican incumbent Eddie Hawkins reported $4,950 in contributions, of which $4,050 was itemized. Donors include Corey Herring and Bob Phillips, who each gave $1,000; Keith Cox and Joe Young, who both gave $500; Oliver Phillips gave $300; and Ben Duncan, Rhea Enterprises of Columbus and Coleman Realty each gave $250. Hawkins reported spending $3,514.
Democrat challenger Willie Jones reported $1,450 in non-itemized contributions, and $1,431 in expenditures.
District 1 supervisor
Republican Michael Brock reported $200 in contributions, all of which were non-itemized. He reported no expenditures. Brock has raised a total of $1,425.
Republican Kevin Clark reported no contributions or expenditures. He reported a total fundraising amount of zero.
Republican Matt Furnari reported no contributions and $458 in expenditures. He reported no contributions to date.
Democrat Tommy Lee Kidd reported $1,800 in self-funding and $1,270 in expenditures. He has raised $1,800 year-to-date.
Incumbent Harry Sanders is not running for reelection.
District 2 supervisor
Incumbent Trip Hairston reported $904 in non-itemized contributions and $1,633 in expenditures. He has raised a total of $4,081.
Challenger Brad Holliman reported no contributions or expenditures. He has reported no fundraising to date.
Both are running as Republicans.
District 3 supervisor
Republican Chad Frasher reported $700 in non-itemized expenditures and $2,004 in expenditures. He has raised a total of $700 year-to-date.
Tony Hannah, a Republican, reported no contributions or expenditures. He has raised a total of $1,500 so far.
Republican Andy Williamson dipped into his own pocket for $1,140, and spent all of it. He has raised a total of $1,140.
Independent Christopher Moore reported no expenditures and no contributions. He has reported no fundraising so far.
Incumbent John Holliman is not seeking reelection.
District 4 supervisor
Challenger Herman Phillips reported self-funding to the tune of $90, and no expenditures. He has reported raising $199 so far.
Challenger Anthony Sanders did not file a report.
Incumbent Jeff Smith reported no contributions or expenditures. He has reported a total of $1,042.
All three are running as Democrats.
District 5 supervisor
Incumbent Democrat Leroy Brooks self-funded to the tune of $500, and reported spending $425. He has reported a total of $500 in contributions so far.
Independent Tiffany Turner reported $250 in non-itemized contributions and no expenditures. She has raised a total of $750 so far.
Chancery clerk
Incumbent Cindy Goode, running as a Republican, reported $500 in contributions and $2,068 in expenditures. She has raised a total of $2,896 to date.
Democrat challenger Andre Deforest Roberts did not file a report.
Tax collector
Kalee Talley reported $997 in non-itemized contributions and $638 in expenditures. She has raised a total of $2,567 so far.
Maci Griffin reported $600 in non-itemized contributions and $500 in itemized contributions. The sole itemized contribution was $500 from Yaz Jabar. Griffin reported $12 in expenditures. She has raised a total of $5,288.
Diane Whaley Stephens reported no contributions and $2,369 in disbursements. She has reported no contributions to date.
All three are running as Republicans.
Coroner
Incumbent Republican Greg Merchant reported $800 in non-itemized contributions and $1,831 in expenditures, of which $1,406 was itemized. He has reported a total of $800 in contributions to date.
Democrat challenger Leonard Williams Jr. did not file a report.
District 3 Justice Court judge
Challenger James Gunter reported raising $1,600, of which $1,500 was itemized. That $1,500 came out of Gunter’s own pocket. Gunter has reported a total of $4,700 in contributions to date. He reported $1,846 in expenditures, of which $1,346 was itemized.
Challenger Joseph Mickens did not file a report.
Incumbent Peggy Phillips reported no contributions and no expenditures. She has reported no fundraising to date.
All three are running as Democrats.
Non-competitive races
Circuit Clerk Teresa Barksdale, Tax Assessor Greg Andrews, County Attorney William Starks, District 1 Justice Court Judge Chris Hemphill, District 2 Justice Court Judge Ron Cooke, District 1 Constable Chris Griffin, District 2 Constable Joe Ables Jr., District 3 Constable Willie “Sonny” Sanders, District 2 Election Commissioner Nancy Ford Duke, District 3 Election Commissioner Yuvonda Youngblood and District 4 Election Commissioner Sherry Guyton Odneal are all running unopposed.
