The Columbus Police Department is investigating several shootings and arson attempts which are believed to be connected to the murder of Deanthony Jones.
At 12:59 a.m. Wednesday — two hours after Jones was shot outside Sandfield One Stop on Main Street — police received a report of shots fired at a residence on Beech Street, according to a press release from the CPD. One complainant would not speak with officers, but the shooting was believed by authorities to have been in response to Jones’ shooting.
Police officers escorted residents of the house home at 7:08 a.m. where they found that the home had been burglarized. A television and car radio were missing, and authorities thought there may have been an attempt to set the home on fire, according to the press release.
At 5:17 a.m., police responded to another call of shots fired at a residence on Forrest Boulevard, also believed to have been targeted in response to Jones’ death. The residence had been struck by gunfire.
The same home was targeted Sunday at 2:28 a.m., when police again responded to the home to find that it had been shot.
At the same time Sunday morning, the house on Beech Street caught on fire. Though the cause of the fire is being investigated, authorities suspect arson, according to the press release.
Jones was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 1:18 a.m. Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. His alleged shooter, Darrion Walls, 27, turned himself in to CPD Thursday.
The CPD asks anyone with information on these crimes to contact them or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
